France:Les Belles Salades de Provence delivers the best lettuce in the district

Les Belles Salades de Provence is an organisation of producers who specialise in many different types of lettuce. The producers' organisation is concerned with laws concerning residual residues from pesticides, the coordination between different parties within the sector and the policies on quality for the export market.

In the space of 30 years Les Belles Salades de Provence has grown into an organisation which grows varieties of lettuce from October till May. There are now 200 growers working in connection with the organisation, who market lettuce varieties for 13 companies. A commission sets the daily prices of the lettuce varieties, which serve as a reference for the French and European market.

Annually, the organisation sells 42 million heads of lettuce on the European market. Important destinations are Germany, Switzerland and Belgium. The growing conditions in the Province are ideal for the lettuce varieties. The temperatures are mild and there are optimal hours of sun. The organisation has a wide selection of lettuce varieties.
