Syngenta Seeds plans capacity expansion in Hungary

Planting seed company Syngenta Seeds plans to spend about HUF 5 billion on a capacity expansion at its base in Mezőtúr in the coming years, plant director Tamás Velky told MTI on Thursday.

Syngenta Seeds obtained a building permit in March and hopes to start building the new capacity in 2011 at the latest, Velky said.

The project, to take a year and a half, will expand processing capacity by 50%, while it will double harvesting capacity and triple storage capacity.

The plant in Mezőtúr turns out about 16,000 tons of maize planting seeds and 2,000 tons of sunflower planting seeds a year. About three-fourths of the sunflower planting seeds are exported, mostly to other countries in Europe.
