Washington’s Largest Cameo Apple Shipper Optimistic
Domex Superfresh Growers is optimistic about the prospects for this year’s Cameo apple crop. “This crop’s ideal sizing and increasing consumer awareness have really been the drivers this season”, says Loren Queen, marketing manager. “The overall crop is peaking on size 80/88 with some lots peaking on 88/100 which is ideal for many markets and perfect in this year of jumbo-sized apples. Retailers looking for smaller sized apples will find that Cameo is an ideal fit and a great value to their customers”, notes Queen.
Domex Superfresh Growers is the industry leader representing 26 percent of all Cameo apples from Washington State and 91 percent of organic Cameos. “We are working with retailers to create visibility and further educate the consumer and really drive this varieties’ performance”, says Queen. “One way we do that is through extensive consumer education like our Flavor Profiles pricer cards that explain the flavor and texture in vivid language”, Queen adds.

In addition to bulk Cameo apple displays, Domex Superfresh Growers encourages setting bagged Cameo displays. “With this year’s apple crop where many apple varieties are skewing to very large apples and Cameos are generally smaller, three and five pound bag programs are a terrific option,” says Queen. “Bagged Cameo apple displays not only increase incremental sales for Cameos, they can increase the overall apple category gross profit by as much as 20 percent.”
Organic Cameos are an ideal fit for every display. Even during tough economic times consumers are increasing their purchases of organic apples. In fact, last crop-year organic apple volume increased 34 percent across the US. “As consumers continue to look for great tasting organic options the flavor of organic Cameos fit that need perfectly”, concludes Queen.
Whether its bags, bulk or organic, Domex Superfresh Growers is your ideal partner for Cameo apples. Call today to get your Cameo program tuned up and running at full speed.
