Turkey allows GMO to be imported

The legislation which allows the genetically modified organisms to be imported to Turkey has been issued. It is claimed to be a scandal by the Organization of Cultivation Engineers.

The legislation about import, export, control and usage of the genetically modified organisms(GMO) which are aimed to be used as food or lure, has been declared in the Official News. The head of Cultivation Engineers Organization, Gökhan Günaydın stated that this legislation is “a scandal in terms of laws, sovereignty and public health”

The head who conducted a press conference made a respond to that this legislation came into effect without a discussion in the parliament.

If it was discussed in the Assembly, public would react!

The National Biosecurity Law Proposal which is stated to be took place in the parliament during the new legislation term by the spokesman of the government, Cemil Çiçek, is withdrawed. Günaydın said that “If the law proposal took place in Assembly, the issue and the discussions would be known by the public who would probably react against.”

Non-law-based regulation

Günaydın specifys that Regulation on the implementation of laws and regulations of interest to show one's heels. He said that the regulations do not contain any relevant with GMO Agriculture, Food and Feed Laws, Law No. 4703 and No. 441 decrees to be based on revealed the injustice of the process of working. He added that as regards the prohibition of the products with GDO, 300 thousand signatures collected soon as 10 days.It is pointed out that 90 percent of the population is against of these products to enter the country.Günaydın stressed laws and regulations in the country is a democratic people's interests should be taken into consideration.

"Turkey does not need to GMO"

If Turkey's biodiversity, agricultural potential, purchasing power and consumption habits of the population is considered, it can be understood that there is no need for the GMO’s product.Gunaydın, the use of these products is argued that contrary to public health.
