US: Recent cool spell delays broccoli harvest

Broccoli tends to thrive in cold weather but not this year. Below-average temperatures in October delayed this year's harvest by nearly three weeks.

Gardeners who planted broccoli this year will like what they pick.

"Broccoli planted in the fall has a lot more flavor than broccoli planted in the spring," said Dan Bigbee of Fassnight Farm.

Bigbee says it’s easier to grow broccoli this time of year and all you have to do to keep worms off the plant is to dip it into water.
