Denmark: Unique thermal solutions for transporting fresh produce
Keeping fruit or vegetables at acceptable temperatures over long or short haul journeys has always been and continues to be a problem for many growers and distributors. Improvements in packaging have helped but the problem persists.

Combi-Therm A/S of Therm, Denmark is having considerable success with a unique range of products which have been specifically designed to maintain temperatures of perishable items on their journey to customers. The materials used in their manufacturing process are specially fabricated for Combi-Therm and ensure that these products are extremely effective. They not only maintain temperatures over much longer periods but also save fuel and energy in refrigerated or temperature controlled transport. Using modern materials such as Pur Textile, Polypropylene, Low Density Polyethylene, Mirror Foil and a trademarked Polywool insulating wadding, the technicians at Combi-Therm have developed a range that includes thermally insulated pallet covers, thermally insulated air line pallet covers, flower pallet covers, lightweight but durable truck partitions to allow for multi-temp loads on a single truck and thermal blankets that work very efficiently with virtually any size load. All items can be made to customer specification and are offered with a variety of insulation ranging from 120g/m² up to 400g/m². The materials do not harden or crack when pre-cooled and the standard of manufacture ensures strength and long life making them very cost effective.
Exotic fruits along with tomatoes, avocados and mangoes and even wine will particularly benefit from such protection. Another spin off from this range is a mirror foil Orchard Cover which protects freshly picked produce from the harmful rays of the sun between the orchard or growing lands and the pack house or processing plant.
Used in conjunction with temperature controlled transport or as stand alone solutions on taut liners, open flat bed trucks or non-refrigerated vehicles this superbly designed and constructed range is fast catching on in many major fruit and vegetable producing regions like Israel, South Africa and Asia-Minor. The range is a more than useful addition to solving the problem of getting fresh produce to the markets in the very best condition possible.
