US: Sun Orchard celebrates 25-year anniversary by announcing ‘Healthy Company’ sustainability initiative
Sun Orchard, a full-service processor and nationwide distributor of ultra-lightly pasteurized juices and juice-based beverages, is celebrating its 25-year anniversary by emphasizing its commitment to quality and sustainability through its “Healthy Products from a Healthy Company” initiative.
“We’re very proud to reach this milestone, and are looking forward to focusing on the next 25 years,” said Marc Isaacs, Sun Orchard President and CEO. “We’re taking this opportunity to assess our operations and identify ways to become a more sustainable company.”
Sun Orchard was founded in Tempe in 1984 on one of the principles of sustainability, finding a valuable use for waste. Originally a packing-house operation, Sun Orchard began its fresh-squeezed juice business using healthy citrus that was thrown out because it was not quite attractive enough for grocery store shelves. Sun Orchard grew gradually during the ‘80s and ‘90s, primarily attracting customers in Arizona and California.
In 1995, Mr. Isaacs and a private investor bought Sun Orchard from its previous owner. They focused on growing the business through a commitment to delivering nutritious, high-quality products with excellent customer service. This simple formula was a success, and Sun Orchard began serving customers throughout the western and central US.
In order to properly serve its growing customer base and utilize the region with the nation’s largest source of citrus, Sun Orchard purchased a production facility in central Florida in 1999. This allowed the company to secure many national and regional food service distributors, as well as many multi-unit restaurant and hotel operators. Sun Orchard products are now enjoyed throughout the US and Canada; deliveries are made to all major metropolitan areas on a regular basis. In addition to its famous Orange Juice and Lemonades, the company also offers Fuji Apple Juice, 100% Juice Smoothies and Juice Blends, Naturally Flavored Iced Teas, award-winning Margarita Mix, and Rendezvous Bay Premium Bar Mixers.
Now, Sun Orchard is enhancing its approach to sustainability by examining its supply chain to reduce waste, investing in recycling and energy conservation efforts, continuing its tradition of philanthropy, and collaborating with employees and customers to identify additional opportunities.
“For us, sustainability has always been about producing delicious, healthy products, being a good company to work with, a good company to work for, and a good company to have in your community,” said Mr. Isaacs. “We’ve been doing this for 25 years, and we’re going to continue striving to do it better than we ever have before.”
