Argentinian and Chilean pipfruit available by Fruttital Distribuzione

For its SH top fruit special, FreshPlaza has interviewed Gilberto Rossi of Italian company Fruttital Distribuzione, which is busy at the moment with apple and pear imports from Argentina and Chile.
In 2008 GF Group Spa, which is the controlling group of Fruttital Distribuzione, acquired two Argentinian fruit companies, Moño Azul SA and Salvador Liguori SA, both specialized in top fruit production.

Williams from Argentina
"Thanks to these two companies and to other selected providing partners in Argentina - as Gilberto Rossi says - we are importing William, Bartlett and Abate pears, besides to Granny and red apples. Volumes are stable in comparison to the previous season. The market has appeared slow in its initial phase, due to some cold climatic conditions in Italy, which has discouraged apple and pear consumption."

Williams from Argentina
Fruttital Distribuzione will receive 3 charter ships from Argentina. Pear supply will last until the end of May, while apples will be available till August.

Red Bartletts from Argentina
"Williams represent 50% of the total pears production in Argentina. Chile also is investing more and more on pear cultivation, mainly in Coscia, Abate and Forelle varieties. Chilean Abates are of excellent quality, thanks to ideal climate conditions", Rossi underlines.

Granny Smiths
Apples deliveries by Fruttital come mainly from Chile, with weekly shippings. Both red and Granny Smith varieties are imported. "Volumes however - Rossi says - are decreasing, due to a longer apple season in the Northern Hemisphere. In Italy as well, apple stocks are this year very high still".
