“Dairy farming has immense potential in Pakistan which is evident from the fact that even textile giants and other large business entities are investing in the dairy sector as part of their business diversification strategy.” These were the views of Mr. Khalid Khan, Chief Executive, Agribusiness Support Fund (ASF), in connection with ASF’s sponsored one month training program ‘modern dairy farm management’ at Sarsabz Dairy Farm, Renala Khurd.
According to a press release issued here today by ASF, this program is a part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between ASF and Nestle Pakistan Limited whereby Nestle has organized a one-month residential training at its Sarsabz Dairy Farm & Training Centre, located near Renala Khurd.
Under the MOU, ASF is sharing 50 % of the total fee with all the participants along with their travel expenses. For this specific program ASF had already approved PKR 0.83 million financial support. This has provided an opportunity for people from all over Pakistan to join the program and obtain state-of-the art training in modern dairy farm management from foreign and local trainers at the exquisite training centre of Nestle Pakistan Ltd.
“This has further created demand for skilled manpower in dairy farm management in the country and to fill the demand-supply gap, we decided to join hands with Nestle Pakistan Limited and organize a comprehensive training program for individuals having relevant qualification and experience” he added.
Mr. Khan further stated that under the present scenario where Pakistan faces scarcity of dairy farming professionals, we felt that there is a need to train locals and provide them with ample opportunities such as exploiting the growing job market, starting their own consultancy / advisory business, modernizing their existing dairy farms and setting up new dairy farms. It is our specific goal to address constraints faced by the agribusiness sector through practical interventions and we are happy that Nestle has partnered with us in organizing such a useful training program in Pakistan”
Agribusiness Support Fund is a not-for-profit Company, established by the Ministry of Food Agriculture & Livestock (MINFAL) and supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the Agribusiness Development & Diversification Project (ADDP). ASF extends its support in the shape of matching grants to agribusiness concerns in the Horticulture and Livestock sectors. While having its office at Lahore, ASF is also represented by the offices of ADDP, located in the four provinces as well as FATA, FANA and the AJK.
