Rago Europe installs state-of-the-art vacuum cooler
The Italian grower and packer Rago has now completed the installation of a €300,000 state of the art, 6 pallet vacuum cooler which lowers the temperature of the product to 3° in less than 15 minutes. The system has a chilled micro spray system that injects vaporized 3° water into the air intake chamber to rehydrate the product with purified mineral water.
Michael Earley director of Foreign Sales and Marketing said “It is our goal to harvest, cool, and package the product and have it on the road for delivery in less than 3 hours. This will give our customers 24 to 48 additional hours of shelf life over our present system.”

Rago has also recently completed the installation of a new modified air packaging system for all their lines of washed salad products.
Battipaglia-based Rago, which is BRC, IFS, ISO & EurepGAP certified grows on some 150 hectares largely under plastic tunnels irrigated with fresh mineral water drawn from a deep underground lake below the farm. In addition to giving the healthy benefit of products grown with fresh mineral water, because of the size of the water mass, we are not reliant on municipal water supply and are less prone to be affected by natural drought.
Rago offers a full line of products in conventional and organic versions. The main product line is baby leaf, but they also offer Chinese whole head and vine products in season.
