Lidl stores in Poland to be sold for EUR 250 million
Rzeczpospolita has learnt that the German owner of store chain Lidl is seeking a buyer of its Polish stores in a transaction that could be worth some €250 million. "The decision was taken recently, while the offers have just been sent out," said a person close to the transaction.
The most likely buyer of the shops is German Aldi, which has just opened its first stores in Poland, but other potential candidates include French Auchan. "We have no comment on our investment plans," said Dorota Patejko of Auchan Polska. The Polish branch of Aldi refused to comment on the issue as well. "This is a poor business and the potential buyer must be aware of that fact," said an employee of one of the largest commercial chains. According to calculations of Rzeczpospolita, Lidl had a turnover of zł.7,500 per sqm annually, while Alma, Delikatesy Centrum or E.Leclerc recorded zł.24,900 per sqm annually.
