“Maitake mushroom export to Japan, Korea and America promising”

Shiitake mushrooms by Inner Mongolia Mogu Biological Technology

“Our main products are Shiitake and Maitake mushrooms, of which we produce 10,950 and 1,200 ton a year respectively. We also produce Shiitake and Maitake jams. We have a stable production volume throughout the year.”

"Prices this year have been lower than last year. This is due to increased competition on the market. An increased number of domestic producers, many small scale, have started to grow mushrooms,” explains Lina Long of Mogu Biological Technology. Mogu is Chinese for mushroom.

“We sell mushroom seeds to small, local farmers. They plant and grow the mushrooms, after which they sell them back to us. There is also a local government scheme that supports farmers. Inner-Mongolia is a remote region in China. These initiatives boost local farming.”

“We currently sell our products on the Chinese domestic market. We are looking to open new markets and are exploring opportunities in Japan, South Korea and North America. Maitake would be our first export product. It could be a popular mushroom thanks to its medicinal qualities, for which it is well known in Korea and Japan. We also want to start with the export of our jams to the Middle East. We are currently conducting market research. In addition, we are attending international trade fairs to grow our customer base abroad.”

“We are well positioned to serve the international market. We have an integrated industrial chain that runs from our own breeding programmes all the way up to production and processing. In addition, we are expanding into other businesses. We are investing in the construction of a mushroom research centre and biological park. These are exciting projects. People are welcome to explore mushroom breeding and production. It is important that people remain connected to nature.”
