Mor International makes inroads abroad, at home

After a trial program with only a few containers last year, Mor International will increase their Sharon Fruit exports to the United States this year. The season, which got off to an early start, will provide plenty of fruit for the American, European and South African markets.

“Last year, only three containers were exported in what was an effort to get used to the difficult protocol which had to be complied with,” said Arthur Yusim of Mor International. “Volumes to the United States will be increased this year.” In addition to expanding their presence in North America, Mor International has also increased their market share in South Africa.

“We extended our market development program to the Western Cape last year, after initially launching it in Guateng,” said Yusim. “This year we will also include the Durban region.” Large promotions in established markets, like Johannesburg, were also conducted.

This year's season got off to an early start, with full production getting under way just after Easter. As the season began early, Yusim expects there to be plenty of supplies for domestic and foreign markets.

“This is one of the earliest seasons in recent history, and that means that South African and overseas consumers will now have access to the fruit over a longer period of time,” said Yusim. “South Africa's Sharon Fruit industry is looking forward to a season of excellent quality after experiencing good growing conditions this summer, and we expect some 7,000 tons of fruit this year.”
