Cuba: The potato harvest exceeds 9,500 tons

Cuba harvested more than 9,500 tons of potatoes by the end of February, said the head of the Food Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Jose Luis Roman Quezada, who added that the potato harvest would last until April.

According to him, this harvest means the crop is yielding 18.5 tons per hectare.

He also stated that one of the difficulties being faced in the current potato campaign was the delay in the arrival of inputs and parts to repair the irrigation equipment, as well as some accessories for spraying machines.

Currently, he said, the provinces of Matanzas, Ciego de Avila, Mayabeque, Artemisa and Cienfuegos are harvesting the tuber. Villa Clara, however used imported seeds.
