Stagnation in the lime market

Lime importers with already scheduled appointments are doing pretty well at the moment, but it is more difficult for those who have surrendered to the daily market. According to a trader, the market started slowing down over a week ago, "Until December it was quite good. The moral in January was the same as in other years, but I am not very enthusiastic about the last two weeks," he says summing up the situation.

Mexican lime prices up

The trader continues, saying, "Limes in the market are below what it costs to produce them. There is little demand, and I get the impression that there is too much supply. But of course, if demand is low, then too much comes too quickly. Hopefully the situation will improve soon. The supply is currently stable. On the other hand, the quality is questionable. There are Brazilian limes on the market, in particular, and the prices are not very good. The small volumes of limes coming from Mexico have higher prices, but they sell better because of their colour."

The importer does not expect this market trend to continue, "There is stagnation now, but in March we usually start doing better in the market. April and May are also often good months in which many volumes are sold. Right now the daily market is doing worse than importers with set appointments, but it could be the other way around in the near future."
