Grapes from South Africa dominate German wholesale

The current wholesale market report (no. 04/2015) of the German Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE) shows that there was a slight decrease in grape prices on the German wholesale markets. Mainly grapes from South Africa were traded. Especially the varieties Prime Seedless, Flame Seedless and Thompson Seedless. Namibia traded the same grapes. But also the varieties Sugraone and Dan Ben Hanna. The supply from Peru and Brazil is decreasing more and more. Small amounts from Argentina were traded in Hamburg wholesale. The supply was good and could cover the current demand completely. However, the demand was not high and trade was quiet. At the end of the week, prices declined a bit in Munich and Frankfurt. But remained steady in Cologne, Hamburg and Berlin. In Hamburg, only the big grapes could continue on the previous course.

Small demand for strawberries

Other strawberries from Spain appeared in larger amounts on the German wholesale markets. Also, varieties from Morocco, Italy or Greece were traded. But the supply was much higher than the small demand, so prices remained quite low. Banana prices remained low as well. Traders tried to raise the prices a little, but the good supply easily covered the demand. The course for apples and pears mostly remained at the same level as the previous week. This was caused by the large supply of both fruits. Prices for Citrus mostly decreased despite good demand on wholesale. Supply of lemon was reduced slightly, but could easily still cover demand.
