Prices up for Spanish lettuce on German wholesale market

The German Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food reports in its market review of week 2/2015, that Iceberg lettuce from Spain was able to record a significant price increase. This results from the fact that the lettuce was only available in small quantities due to weather conditions and was also sold easily. The demand for Italian endive remained almost constant. Lower surcharges were realized here. The ratings showed, that products from Belgium had a higher price than the Italian. Also, the small supply from the Netherlands or France had a slight price increase. The coloured lettuce from France sold best, followed by Italy and Spain. A good quality and a high demand lead to stable prices. In general, Spanish products cost the most.

Supply of zucchini and eggplants lower than demand
The supply of zucchini and eggplants could not cover the whole demand. As a result, the price increased on German wholesale markets. At Frankfurt market, prices for zucchini towards the weekend were up to 12.00 Euro per 5 pound box. Cauliflower was available only in small amounts. Therefore, the price rose steadily. Italy presented the largest available amount, followed by France. Spanish vine tomatoes were required most. Supply from the Netherlands had a slight decrease. Round tomatoes came mostly from Spain. Flesh tomatoes from Belgium and Spain were short. The cherry tomato supply from the Netherlands, Italy and Spain was almost equal. Sweet peppers came mainly from Spain. The green and red varieties came also from Turkey. Yellow came in quite small amounts from Israel and Morocco. All varieties were in equal steady amount, so prices increased a bit. Vegetable onions from Spain and household onions mostly from German suppliers had a good price and supply on the market.
