The Government of New Delhi announced the market opening today in La Gaceta. The announcement ends ten years of intense negotiations by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Agriculture and the National Health Service and Food Quality (SENASA ), stated the Foreign Ministry in a statement.
The phytosanitary endorsement of Argentine pears, apples and quinces opens up a market of 1,250 million, which purchased more than 156 million dollars and increased its imports of fruits and vegetables by 2.12 percent in October, according to the Indian Ministry of Commerce.
"The efforts made by the Argentine authorities to achieve this result expands and diversifies the basis of our exports to that country, which were focused on soybean oil, copper ores, leather and cowhide, sunflower oil and corn, which accounted for almost 90 percent of total exports in 2013," the government announced.
Bilateral trade last year amounted to $1,937 million dollars, with a favourable balance for Argentina; as they've been having since 1995. In 2010, the country reached a record surplus of $755 million dollars.
