Baden-Wurttemberg: circa 8,800 tons of berries harvested

In the German state of Baden-Württemberg sufficient rain and average temperatures allowed for good growing conditions for berries this year, reports the German website Fruchthandel.de.

However, the harvest was influenced by the suzuki-fruit fly. This fly caused crop failure in many of the following harvests: late-ripe raspberries, blackberries and red berries. A harvest volume of 8,776 tons in total this year means last year's harvest was exceeded by almost 10%, as suggested by the Statistical Office of the State on the basis of preliminary results. About one third of the total harvest volume consisted of blackberries, which is 27% more than last year. There was only a small increase with the white and red berries.
