The product adapts really well to the soil of the area as well as the weather and does not need particular attention. This is why it is cultivated throughout the year, although the main volumes are produced between May and February. Cultivated areas have remained more or less the same over the years, just like the tons produced. Prices are slightly lower than last year, €0.28/kg compared with €0.33/kg.
Despite this, it is one of the few products for which prices remain relatively stable, so producers are quite happy.
In addition to the traditional green cabbage (2,000 tons per year), there are also "cuore di bue" and purple cabbages (1,500 and 300 tons respectively).
Volumes are expected to increase in the next few years, as investments are not huge and it can represent a good economic opportunity. Other producers are considering this crop as a "filler" for their range.
