Auchan opens new logistics platform in S.W. France

The Auchan group, through their subsidiary Scofel, have opened a cold logistics platform of over 6,000m2, named Scofel Aquitaine in the Lot-et-Garonne in Samazan. The Bordeaux based company, Thalium, provided the platform which represented an estimated €8 million. Scofel Aquitaine signed a 12 year contract as of the start of the works. The site will go through a second construction as the whole platform will eventually cover 9,600 m2.

The platform is situated between Bordeaux, Toulouse, Brive and Pau, which will allow Scofel Aquitaine to supply 39 stores with fruit and vegetables (14 hypermarkets, 12 Auchan Drive’s, 12 Chrono Drives and 1 Auchan Direct) and other stores belonging to them in the South West.

28% of the volume treated annually by Scofel Aquitaine, i.e. 42,000 tons, is produced in the region. 51% of these Aquitaine supplies are from the agricultural subsidiary in the Lot-et-Garonne for which average annual turnover in fruit and vegetables represents €750 million, making it the main economical sector in the region.

Scofel Aquitaine has about 40 employees, mainly from their previous platform which was situated, since 2006, in Carbon-Blanc, near Bordeaux.
