Xian Huang, Yex:

Possible increased demand for Chinese pomelos from Russia

The Chinese pomelo season has started again at the exotics importer Yex. Three weeks ago the first harvest took place in the province of Guangdong. Yex will be importing Chinese pomelos until February 2015. According to Xian Huang from Yex the Chinese production of pomelo is similar to last year. "It is only difficult to say which volumes will be sent to Europe. This year demand from Russia could be higher, because due to the boycott, Russia is importing more fruit from China.

Yex supplies pomelos mainly to Germany, Austria and the Scandinavian countries. "Customers in the EU know that having pomelo in the winter is something to appreciate. The Dutch consumers could appreciate this a bit more," says Xian Huang.
