Spain: La Nucia, a new tomato variety

A new cherry-plum tomato variety has been born in La Nucia and it will bear the municipality's name. Arno Kahne, an 80 years old German biologist who lives in La Nucia, has created this unique new variety in which each plant can produce up to 200 tomatoes.

This new variety is in its authenticity phase. In fact, multinational Ludwichshafen BASF (from Germany) has already received some seeds of this new tomato variety so that, via scientific research, they can check its authenticity.

Kahne has decided to name this new tomato variety La Nucia. The reason: his experiments and plantations have all been conducted in the small vegetable garden of the Montebello residence in La Nucia, where he has lived since March 2013. This German scientist is a fan of cultivating vegetables.

Kahne was a biologist by profession who, in 1980, led a development project by the Federal Republic of Germany in Peru. The German biologist presented his work to the Mayor of La Nucia, Bernabe Cano, and the Councillor for Foreign Residents, Bart Gommans, along with the director of the residence Monika Welchering.
