Peter van der Klift, Milestone Fresh:

"Limited availability of reefers will lead to greater shortage of equipment"

"Seasons come and go. It's often all or nothing. Many seasons have ended by now, while other seasons are just starting up again. In order to be able to guide all these seasons well, container shipping companies are working year-round to get the containers in the right positions, in order to service the flow of goods properly," says Peter van der Klift of Milestone Fresh, a shipping agent specialized in transporting fruit, vegetables, flowers, plants and other fresh produce.

"It is to be expected that this year, multiple seasons will be in full production simultaneously, such as meat, fish, potatoes, onions and the like. These product types are going everywhere in the world, but mainly from Western Europe. Because a limited number of reefers are coming from other countries, it's to be expected that this year, more than other years, there will be a shortage of equipment," says Peter.

"For this reason, Milestone Fresh has been in talks with several suppliers, to be able to provide an appropriate solution. That is to say, attempting to give a clear forecast with correct and open information, to get guarantees to have your bookings depart at the right moment, but also, of course, to have them arrive at the right moment. We also do this in cooperation with cargo flows from Central America and Asia, for instance. We try to combine all cargo flows," the shipping agent concludes.
