Germany has the largest food processing sector in Europe

With a yearly turnover of 175 billion Euros and approximately 555,000 employees, Germany has the largest food processing industry of Europe. According to estimates, in the last year, 6,000 producers filled supermarket shelves with around 170,000 products.

The sector is the third most important German industry and comprises of small and medium sized businesses, many of which are very traditional family companies and successful producers of international German specialities. 

According to estimates, profits from foreign sales is 31%. Even in Asia, products 'Made in Germany', are loved. From 8th to 11th of April, the German ministry for food and agriculture were present at Asia's Food & Hotel trade fair in Singapore. The fair was aimed at supporting the promotion of small and medium businesses through the opening of new markets and securing their market share.
