With a certification

Paraguayan melon and watermelon growers wish to export to Europe

The members of the Committee for Industry, Trade, Tourism and Cooperatives, chaired by Oscar González Drakeford (PLRA), had a chat with farmers from Tavapy, department of Alto Paraná, who are interested in exporting cassava, melon and watermelon to Europe with a certification.

The Executive Director of the Technical Unit of the Presidency's Social Cabinet, Mirta Denis, took part in the meeting, whose main point was to discuss the possibility of exporting products to Europe directly from municipalities in the inland regions, as well as the need to have the products certified.

'We have a project for the export of cassava, melon and watermelon to Europe. What worries us the most is the certification for these products, as without it, we will not be able to export. If possible, we wish to organise a working group to coordinate a plan of action in these locations, with all sectors involved, so that this very important project can become a reality," said Gonzalez Drakeford.

All agreed on the importance of such meetings and confirmed that many more will be held, as having the project reach a successful conclusion would benefit the economy of many areas in the country.
