China: Daning’s apple industry leads county’s economy
And since 2012, from the implementation of the "Use the Forest for the People" strategy, Daning county’s fruit planting has reached a total area of 106,950 acres, with a total fruit output of 38,000 tons last year, amounting to a total value of 76 million. At 1,462 yuan per capita income in apple farming, fruit growing in Daning has made the lives of farmers better.
Based on the provincial government’s requirement of “One County One Industry", "One Village One Product", the county decided to develop and plant fruit trees. In 2013, their apple trees reached 35,000 acres, with seedling breeding at 100 acres. They have a newly constructed apple plantation of 1,2000 acres, with a planting area of 8,100 acres, with apple trees totalling to 267,300.
In addition, the government has set up cooperative organizations, to help link between farmers and the market. Currently there are about 48 cooperatives and about 2,470 personnel. The county organizes various forms of technical training sessions and their numbers have reached more than 6600 people. They have also set up a fruit technology service hotline, do technical consulting, introduction of new products and information dissemination services.
