New mild preservation method stirs up American juice market

Goodnature introduced the PurePulse technology in the USA at the annual conference of the Institute of Food Technologists in Chicago last month.

PurePulse, manufactured by CoolWave Processing in the Netherlands, is an innovative mild preservation method for juices and other fluids. This mild preservation technology extends the shelf life of fresh juices without the loss of vitamins, aroma, color or flavor.

PurePulse enables the preservation of fresh juice in a profitable, natural and safe way, while retaining all its taste and nutritional values. The technology extends the shelf life to at least 21 days.

As a result, PurePulse offers customers the opportunity to capitalize on growing consumer demand for fresh juice. At the same time, the longer shelf life increases supply chain flexibility and reduces food waste in supermarkets.

The predecessor to PurePulse is “classical” PEF, or pulsed electric field, technology.

PEF is a continuous preservation process in which liquid food products or beverages are treated while passing a pulsed electric field in order to kill bacteria and mold. PurePulse has fine-tuned PEF to perfection by employing a number of innovations. As a result, producers will be able to achieve the same level of safety with hardly any thermal impact, thus retaining more of the juices’ fresh properties.

PurePulse is a continuous preservation process. Certainly compared to batch processing it is a cost efficient way to new dynamics for the fresh juice market. The installation can easily be installed in any production area.

“PurePulse opens up a whole new range of possibilities for the fresh juice market,” said Pete Whitehead of Goodnature, the official reseller in the United States. ”Fresh juices are delicious and healthy and thereby very popular in the USA. PurePulse gives producers the opportunity to produce fresh juices in a safe and cost efficient way without the addition of unnatural additives.”
