French artichoke season kicks off

Prince de Bretagne began their artichoke season this week, with supplies of Camus and Petit Violets now available and Castel artichokes to become available in a couple of weeks.

While Camus artichokes are now available, supplies of that variety will increase in the coming weeks. Castel artichokes are not yet available in sizable volumes, but they are expected to come online in approximately two weeks. Peak volumes are expected later this month, and with daily production estimated to reach between 150 tons and 200 tons, Prince de Bretagne is anticipating significant supplies.

Both Camus and Castel artichokes will again be available in Prince de Bretagne's unique Artichoke Box. The box is a large cardboard container that holds the equivalent of 14 traditional boxes of artichokes. It's become a favorite of retailers because it's an easy, practical way to set up an attractive display in produce aisles because it's easy to set up, has attractive graphics on the front and sides and displays the product in an accessible manner.

Petit Violet artichokes will also be available this week in both boxes and plastic packaging. Petit Violets will be available both individually and in bunches in the box format, and they'll be available in the Petit Violet Freshness Sachets. The Freshness Sachets offer retailers the ability to present the artichokes with additional information about the product for consumers who may not know much about Petit Violet artichokes. Prince de Bretagne anticipates production for Petit Violet artichokes to exceed 2,000 boxes per day during the season.
