President, Felipe Calderon Hinojosa, on Tuesday inaugurated the National Laboratory of Genomics for Biodiversity (LANGEBIO), which will identify the genome of the species from Mexico, and thus capitalize on the enormous value of our biodiversity.
LANGEBIO Center enables the development of technology for producing varieties with higher efficiency for the use of fertilizers and drought resistance, thereby contributing to climate change adaptation.
Because of its capacity in the genome sequence, LANGEBIO is considered the most
important lab in Latin America and maintains a competitive level with the best centers in the U.S., Europe, Japan and China.
With this technology, he said, the seed of different native products (tomatoes, peppers, squash and avocado, etc.) will improve to make them more resistant to drought, frost, pests and diseases, and this way counter react the effects of climate change.
