Agropark , Mexico,
The new, most ambitious high-tech greenhouse project of North America, for the production of cut flowers and vegetables on eventually 400 hectares of land.

Within the first phase of 180 hectares a range of products will be grown. The first 10 hectares of tomato greenhouses will, from March, be extended to 60 hectares as project number 1.

Situated in the city of Querétaro, in central Mexico, the Agropark as a greenhouse project has huge advantages: A year round mild climate, good humidity, situated on a plot of 2,000 metres with excellent road access and logistical opportunites. The Agropark is situated close to the lovely Querétaro City and within 20 kms of an international airport. It is also 200km from Mexico City and 18 hours by lorry from Laredo in Texas.

The Agropark is designed with the latest technological developments in greenhouses, cultivation methods, technical installations and infrastructure. All production units have identical installations and infrastructure and the same cultivation style (although different varieties). It is becoming the leading production location of North America for the cultivation of a range of vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and a range of leaf vegetables. Also for the cultivation of cut flowers such as roses, lilies and gerbera’s.

Work and rewards
The Agropark organisation are looking for experienced tomato growers from the beginning of the building phase (March/ April 2008), who can immediately start with the technical management of an operation of 10 hectares, growing to 60 hectares.

The independent production units/ companies within Agropark will be supported by a service organisation. The Nursery Managers/ Senior Growers will be employed by this organization and will operate from it. They will report to the General Director of this service organization. The Agropark is looking for experienced growers with demonstrable growing experience and also production experience in, if possible, southern climatic regions. Candidates will be required to combine their own knowledge and expertise with the local area and develop local knowledge in order to get the best out of the local growing conditions. They will also be required to contribute to the development of local nursery staff who will supporting them in their activities.

In this challenging role the nursery manager will be responsible for the daily organization in the greenhouses. They will give enthusiastic and motivating leadership to the picking, scouting and growing teams and will oversee the production process and control the quality. They will contribute to product innovation and development. Requirements:

  • A completed qualification at Bachelor level (BsC) in Horticulture (HTuS, HAS etc.)
  • Thorough experience of growing, planning and management of high tech tomato production
  • Knowledge of pests, plagues, crop protection, irrigation, climate control, quality management
  • Knowledge of propagation and breeding, including recommendations
  • Knowledge of computerized climate control, in particular the Priva system
  • Excellent English language skills and a reasonable level of ability in Spanish

Job description
In 2007, in The Netherlands and Flanders, NSure realized the market introduction of RipeNSure, a molecular test that allows a highly accurate monitoring of the ripening stage of Conference pears. In 2008 we want to introduce this test into the European market, starting with the countries that have the largest production of Conference pears. We are therefore searching for local representatives that are able to sell the RipeNSure assay on a commission basis to growers and other stakeholders. Sales will be organized on an order-by-order basis; pre-financing of assays is not required. The activities should start in March and will continue until the end of the harvest period. Exclusive sales rights per country in 2008 are negotiable on the basis of a guaranteed minimum turnover.

Function requirements
We are looking for enthusiastic and energetic sales persons, with interest in innovative technology. We ask a track record in sales, an intimate knowledge of pear growing and good contacts among local pear growers and associated businesses. Knowledge of the local language and English or Dutch is a requirement as well. Both individuals and companies can apply.

Offer
The contract is temporary and will concern the year 2008. but prolongation in 2009 is possible. Future growth potential is further possible by extension to other NSure tests. NSure will provide an introduction course for our technology in Wageningen, that will take one day (travel expenses covered). Ample promotion material will be provided. Sales is expected mainly in the months May up to and including September. Payment is on a commission-only basis. In high season earnings can reach over €1500 a week (depending on the local market and your efforts).

The Position:

  • Development of detailed system design specifications for system/program development.
  • Coding, testing, debugging, and documenting more complex programs, and enhancing existing programs to ensure that the software continues to meet user needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, ensure error-free implementation of a reliable growing process, within USDA organic standards.
  • Consistently producing high quality, cost competitive, organic vegetables; keeping the facility up to date.

  • A hands-on grower with a day-to-day involvement in growing, production and process/quality control.

  • Good working knowledge of packing equipment and mechanical instruments used in greenhouse vegetable production incl. data gathering instruments for labour.
  • Able to manage moderately complex projects to successful completion with minimal or no supervision.
