Bruno Vacirca, manager at Gautier Sicily, focused on the results obtained from vine tomatoes, plum tomatoes and cherry tomatoes in greenhouses.

Results have been great and vine tomato Faustyno was a constant presence: starting with the first transplanting at the end of August, then in September and October; then again with the second transplanting in December, January, February and March.

Faustyno F.1, the vine tomato had a leading role in the evening.

During the meeting a video was shown in order to make clear that tomatoes are tolerant of TYLCV virus and its easy fruit set.

Fruits of Myriade F.1, another main character of the evening.

"On the 16th May we displayed a greenhouse transplanted in January, where it was shown how the plants are tolerant of cold weather and their excellent profit. However, those kinds of transplanting are not practised too much because there is a drop in this segment of the market. So we preferred to sum up what we did and show our experience to our customers," Bruno Vacirca says.

The former talked about the tomato range and its variety (Delicassi Atyliade, DCM 79, Cyro and Clanio); while the latter introduced other variety species such as cauliflower(Ubac), outdoor summer lettuce (Gorio), courgette (Cassiopée, L 1034 and Geode) and green beans (Pongo).

Prof. Cherubino Leonardi from Catania University presented a report titled "Trimming of green tomatoes: an old practise for a modern production".

His topic was really interesting because it was connected to current problems about quality and consequently, competition in international markets.
