Pfalz market Germany: Pioneer of regional sales opens lettuce season 2012

"Pfalzmarkt is one of the pioneers of the regional sales" Thomas Griese, secretary general of the ministry of environment and agriculture of Rhineland-Pfalz, said. According to Gabot.de. The cooperative Pfalz market, a cooperative arrangement between growers from the German region Pfalz, last Monday started the German vegetable and lettuce season 2012 in Mutterstadt in the framework of 'Grüne Woche Rheinland-Pfalz'.

The Pfalz is Germany's largest vegetable and lettuce growing area. The growers of the cooperative Pfalzmarket noticed very early that more and more value was attached to 'local'. Pfalzmarket was therefore one of the first users of the quality hallmark Rheinland-Pfalz, which was instituted in 2006. Rhineland-Pfalz supply under the hallmark ''Unsere Heimat' (Our homeland) supermarket chain  Edeka, according to the secretary-general
"The Pfalz offer more and more regional products and meet the increasing demand for foodstuff, the origin of which is known" said Griese. Everybody profits as long as regionality with clear quality and origin criteria is sold: the consumer and the environment because of the shorter transport distances. "The government of the federal state want to promote the regional sales and have made this the main point of the Grüne Woche and federal state politics."

The 'Grüne Woche Rheinland-Pfalz' is held this year for the sixth time and has as a motto: "Recognise value, Create value: Future in the field!"
