NL: Bud Holland import French Jerusalem artichokes all year round

Bud Holland, specialists in import and export of exotic fruit and vegetables since 1969, have in addition to this exotic assortment also many other special products in its range of products. One of the products is the Jerusalem artichoke, which is part of the so-called 'forgotten vegetables'. The Jerusalem artichoke, also called topinamboer, is depending on the variety, coloured from cream to rose-red.

Bud Holland import the Jerusalem artichoke almost all year round from France. During the months of June and July Bud Holland import them from Israel. The cultivation in the Netherlands is really small-scale. The taste of the tuber is slightly sweet and compares to the artichoke. There are many ways in which the Jerusalem artichoke can be used in the kitchen as a vegetable. The young recently harvested cream coloured Jerusalem artichoke can be eaten with or without peel. For instance raw in salads.

At Bud Holland Jerusalem artichokes are available in 5 kg packings. Possible other customer made packings are also available on application. The Jerusalem artichoke is mainly supplied to the regular and hotel and restaurant wholesalers all over Europe. Unfamiliarity of the larger part of consumers is the reason that the Jerusalem artichoke is only seldom seen in the supermarket.
