Francis van Overstraeten, De Roeck:

"Belgium: "Spanish citrus price little higher than Maroc and Egypt"

According to Francis van Overstraeten of De Roeck & Zonen it is quiet in the citrus market at the moment. "It is not going wrong, but it is holiday time in Belgium at the moment and that is very noticeable." De Roeck is supplying Spanish Navel Late and Valencia at the moment. In Spain in various parts of the country there was a possibility of frost, does this have an influence on oranges? "Luckily we only have few quality problems," Francis emphasizes. "It depends on which area the products come from and our producers did not have too many problems."

At the moment there is a lot of citrus on the market, originating in various countries. "We notice that we have headwind from Moroccan and Egyptian citrus. But nevertheless those prices are lower in general than the Spanish. The difference is not big, about 10 cents. The Spanish navels are about 80 cents to one euro and the juicing oranges are sold at 70 cents."

Francis mentions that the situation on the citrus market is comparable to last year. "Then the weather was even better, but it was also a quiet period."
