The Greenery books profit after turbulent year

In a turbulent year remembered for the EHEC-crisis and a bad summer, the Greenery booked a net profit of 1.9 million Euro. Lower volumes and prices resulted in a turnover of 1.61 billion Euro against 1.84 billion Euro in 2010. Important improvements and investments in commerce and logistics made the clout and efficiency of the Greenery a lot better. The commercial process is simplified by market approach from product specialism and measures on product flow control have contributed to operating expenses being reduced by 2.9%.

Financial results
Last year's net profit was 4.8 million Euro against the 1.9 million of 2011. The influence of the EHEC-crisis on the results has been very a substantial 6 million Euro. The sales in volume have decreased by 6%, because of EHEC, a bad summer and the closure of the Russian border. These external developments have had consequences on the result of individual members of Coöperatie Coforta. The returns decreased 27% on average per square meter for some growers.

Vision on logistics
In 2011 the activities of Maasland has been integrated in Bleiswijk. The Greenery also made the decision to close the location in Venlo. This will take place in 2012. As a consequence of the measures the distribution has been improved and costs reduced by 5 million Euro on a yearly basis.

Expectation
The Greenery concentrates on continuation of the strategy, which is focusing on operational excellence, added value and implementation on logistical vision. Thanks to the implementation of operating system SAP, information flow and planning of produce flow will be optimized. The Greenery will focus also on collaboration with local growers in important markets for the company. The company will give a lot of  attention to introduction of new products and concepts, like Red Egg and the seedless bell pepper.
