Southern Hemisphere apple and pear forecasts lower
Following the climatic adverse conditions in Argentina, production data in the country has been adjusted downwards. Published data shows that the 2012 apple and pear Southern Hemisphere crops are expected to reach 5.457.000 MT and 1.391.000 MT, respectively.
For apples, this represents a decrease of 3% on the 2011 crop; while forecasted export figures also decrease by 5% to 1.644.663 MT.
For pears, the decrease is of 10% on the 2011 crop, while forecasted export figures are expected to be 15% lower at 655.960 MT. Data has been collected from industry groups in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, New Zealand and South Africa.
