Coop Switzerland want decrease import duty at the border

The buyer's tourism cause Coop Switzerland a lot of trouble. Therefore the new Coop-director Joos Sutter wants politicians to ensure that consumers buying things abroad still have to pay import duty. At the moment this amount is still Sw.Frs.400.

"The amount on which import duty is payable must certainly be decreased, because at present a lot of purchasing power is lost for Switzerland" as per Sutter in an interview. At the moment four persons in a motorcar may buy import products to the value of Sw.Frs.1,200 without paying import duty and bring into Switzerland. This whilst the Coop. must pay import duty from the first Franc.

Sutter does not think this situation will improve this year. "Also in 2012 about
5 billion Swiss Francs will probably disappear abroad, 3 billion of which is for goods of daily use." That turnover is lost has also become clear to the staff in the meantime. Coop Switzerland have cancelled the profit sharing arrangement of the staff for this year.

The retail trade turnover of Coop Switzerland decreased slightly by 0,9% to
Sw.Frs.18,4 billion on 2011.
