Proexca and Asprocan have launched for the first time a promotion and marketing campaign for banana in Germany

Spain: Canary banana Promotion

The Canary Islands´ government and the Association of the Banana Producer Organizations of Canarias (Asprocan) will promote, for the first time this fruit in Germany. This campaign will count with the participation of markets from Cologne and Berlin and the two major German supermarket chain stores.

This was announced this week by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the regional government, when the Ministry reported in a statement that the Canary Islands will be represented at Fruit Logistica 2012. President Paulino Rivero, and the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Water, Juan Ramon Hernandez will assist.

The campaign driven by the Canary's Government and Asprocan will be a pioneer experience in promoting and marketing Canary banana outside Spanish borders.

It aims to "expand the market for sale" and "the positioning of the brand -Plátano de Canarias- regarding bananas, revealing the Canary fruit as a premium quality product," as explained by the counsellor delegate of the Canarian Society of Economic Development (Proexca), Paul Martin Carbajal.

For this purpose, contracts have been signed with German supermarket chains Karstadt and Kaufhof and municipal markets in Cologne and Berlin, as of February 3rd and for four weeks, to sell the fruit.

This initiative, which 21,000 kilos of bananas will be exported to Germany, originated at Fruit Logistica 2011, an encounter that was "a key step in deciding to enter the German market" and which served to arouse interest in bananas from the Canary Islands, in supermarket chains in Germany.
