Engels Machines shows novelties during expo-SE

New machine helps when harvesting green asparagus

Asparagus production is in full swing with a tendency towards an intensive production with a high harvesting efficiency. An AspergeSpin using the M-arches system for the management of foil is used for 90 days per season. This intense use of the AspergeSpin makes new demands on the machine.

To reinforce this development, Engels Machines further developed the AspergeSpin in various aspects. The most obvious innovation is the new foil positioner. This essential part of the machine, for the positioning of foils, has been developed completely anew. The new construction makes the AspergeSpin substantially more stable, so that foil management becomes even easier to apply.

The guidance by means of a rotatable foil positioner is a further development of the AspergeSpin A1+. The base frame consists of the proven concept. However, by letting the foil positioner rotate using a bend, a very small turning circle is created. This isn’t just advantageous on small plots, but also on plots where the type of soil or soil structure of the headland can cause problems. Because of the bending steering, the machine pulls itself through the bend. This allows workers to manoeuvre quicker and more easily on the headland.

The ASVerde is completely new, this is a harvest helping machine for the harvest of green asparagus. Compared to the electronic drive of the ASGreen, the ASVerde has a mechanical drive. Because of this mechanical drive, the driver can better feel how the machine will respond, and it becomes easier to operate.

A characteristic of all Engels Machines is that they are electronically driven, and therefore do their job by means of sustainable energy. The necessary energy is supplied by the most modern battery techniques. At this moment, an AGM DEEP CYCLE battery is used. This battery doesn’t have to be maintained and supplies constant power for longer periods. As a next step in the development in battery techniques, Engels Machines has been testing lithium batteries. It’s important to know the actual performances of these batteries during the asparagus season. From 2020, the lithium batteries will become available for the AspergeSpin.

The harvesting technique of Engels Machines is increasingly used globally. This season, the milestone of the 10,000th AspergeSpin will be achieved. Because of positive results from the market, inquiries keep coming. In practice, and depending on the parcel conditions, an average of 30 kilos per hour is harvested by using the AspergeSpin with M-arches. Results are absolutely necessary to grow asparagus economically justifiably.

Engels Machines can be found at stand D-23 in hall 1during the expo-SE in Karlsruhe, Germany, on 21 and 22 November.
