The Spanish Intense plum tomato import season is slowly getting started at the Dutch company, P. Zuijderwijk Import. "Small volumes are coming in now. I have already contracted the largest part", says Paul Zuijderwijk. He supplies the tomatoes under the Roxy label. These are available in M, MP, and MM sizes.
This company's most important buyers are exporters and wholesalers. However, there is also enormous interest from processors. "Intense tomatoes are much firmer than other tomatoes. They, however, do not lose any shape or juiciness because of this", he says.
"They are a great tomato to use in sandwiches. This is why it is so popular in the hospitality and processing industries. About 90% of our volume goes to these sectors", concludes Paul. He expects to be able to offer these Spaanse Intense tomatoes until the end of April.
