The Leroy brand includes a production company and a company that sells apples, pears and organic vegetables. Pierre Leroy, at the head of the company, started producing organic vegetables thanks to his customers. "Historically, we were producers of conventional apples and pears. Some of our customers had to deal with a shortage of organic vegetables, and they asked us if we had the ability to grow them. I liked the idea a lot."
In France, demand exceeds the supply for organic products to a large extent. "There is just not enough supply. For us this is very interesting, because commercialization of the product is already guaranteed. This allows us to invest more in the organic than in the conventional."
French sweet potato
Alongside butternuts, pumpkins and zucchini, the company produces French sweet potatoes. "We are aiming at expanding the range with peppers, eggplants and other products next year. Right now we commercialize all our products in France, but exporting is most certainly a project for the future."
SARL Leroy has been a producer since 1821. Today, the company operates around 150 hectares. It also commercializes the products of a dozen other producers.
