British supermarket 'watchdog' now also checking on Ocado and B&M Homestores

The British Competitions and Market Authority (CMA) has announced that the online retailer, Ocado, and the fast-growing B&M Homestores now also have to comply with The Groceries Supply Code of Practice (GSCOP). They have been included because the yearly revenue of these retailers now exceeds GPB 1 billion. Compliance with the code is controlled by the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA).

De GCA was appointed in 2013. It aims was to check whether the ten largest supermarkets in the UK treat their suppliers fairly. They also have to ensure that these companies abide by the GSCOP. These ten supermarkets are Asda, Co-operative, Marks & Spencer, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Waitrose, Aldi, Iceland, and Lidl. Now, Ocado and B&M Homestores have joined their ranks.

Dutch businesses who directly supply these British supermarkets can also call on the GCA if a supermarket in that country does not keep to the GSCOP. It is, therefore, essential to stay up to date with this code. GSCOP training is available via various channels.
