Fruchthof Regensburg has been supplying raw materials for more than 20 years

''Good season for Spanish onions''

Oversized onions are currently sourced during the winter months, primarily from Spanish fields. They quickly find their way into the German wholesale trade. In this year's season, as calibers are smaller due to the weather conditions, the Spanish onion business is particularly lucrative, says Metin Öner, owner of Fruchthof Regenburg. This wholesaler markets so-called Spanish onions under his own brand, 'Walhalla'.

The Walhalla private label was launched more than 20 years ago and has since acquired a certain recognition value in regional trade. The onions are especially good at bargaining this year. '' We offer both domestic and Spanish onions under our own brand in large containers of 10 or 25 KG. In the case of Spanish products, there is a great deal of demand for the very large grades, that is caliber 90+. So far, we enjoy good product availability and product quality. ''

White mushrooms
In addition to the onion business, many varieties of mushrooms are also available with the Walhalla label. Within this product range, both domestic and imported products are offered on the market. ''We are currently selling more Polish mushrooms. We are seeing a great need for white mushrooms in today's market.''

According to the long-standing specialist, the mushroom business is consistently the same all year round. "Seasonal items such as chanterelles and porcini mushrooms are distributed throughout the year, but mushrooms see little variation and the market has continued stability."

Regensburg harbor
Fruchthof Regensburg has been based at the port of Regensburg for many years and currently has an operating area of almost 7,000 m² with a fresh area of 1200 m². The products and private labels of the wholesalers are available in many hypermarkets in Germany and Austria, as well as for restaurateurs and resellers. The focus of the company is increasingly on table potatoes, onions, mushrooms and bean sprouts.
