Chinese market accounts for 90% of the export volume

Chilean cherry and blueberry export is going well this year

The General Directorate for International Economic Relations, under the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, recently published the "Monthly foreign trade report for September, 2018". Chilean exports of cherries and blueberries are going very well this year because of strong demand from the Chinese market.

The Chilean website "America Economia" recently reported that the monthly foreign trade report showed that Chilean cherry and blueberry export performs exceptionally. The average export value has set a historical record in Chile. Up until now, Chile has exported cherries with an overall value of 856 million USD, which is an increase of 187% in comparison with last year. The overall value of blueberry export reached 485 million USD, which is an increase of 39% in comparison with last year.

Data from the Chilean Fruit Industry Federation (Fedefruta) shows that China is the largest export market for Chilean cherries. The export value is as much as 771 million USD, and the volume of Chilean cherry export to China accounts for 90% of the overall Chilean cherry export volume. The overall surface area devoted to cherry plantation in Chile increased from 8,675 hectares in 2015 to 13,699 hectares in 2018, which is an increase of more than 57%. The Chinese market for Chilean blueberries is also growing stronger by the day.
