The organic aromatic herb sector is growing

"We believe organic agriculture is the only option for the future. We chose to pursue it not only with our plants but when it comes to packaging as well by launching our new biodegradable recyclable packaging," explained Carlo Simonato and Rosanna Bertoldin, respectively brand owner and marketing manager of F.lli Simonato family business.

Rosanna Bertoldin, marketing manager marketing at F.lli Simonato.

Fratelli Simonato is a leader in the production of organic aromatic herbs and started growing and selling aromatic plants in 1993. In 1997, it started employing organic cultivation methods and finished the conversion process in 2000, when it obtained the BIO certification issued by Istituto Certificazione Etica Ambientale - ICEA.

The growth of the company is determined by the effort of the entire family. Over the years, investments have been made in technology and innovation to keep up with the times, preferring natural resources to cultivate in the best way and meet the demands of clients very careful about the good quality of products.

"Thanks to artificial lighting, the new state-of-the-art greenhouses enable us to grow basil and aromatic herbs 12 months a year."

"This year, we have also started producing Christmas stars (pointsettia), available in 10, 12 and 14 cm pots. In addition, we can create compositions made up of two or three plants in 20 cm pots," added Rosanna.

"We decided to opt for organic cultivation methods for this plant too, to show once again we are committed to respecting nature: organic methods do not allow using anti-parasite products, pesticides and other chemicals and favor the use of products that safeguard man and the environment."

Aromatic herbs
"Our care for environmental sustainability means we are also looking for innovative solutions. For example, we created an entirely eco-friendly packaging range called BIO KEPOS 3."

Three points of strength of BIO KEPOS 3

- Pots are made of vegetable fibers and can be disposed of in organic waste containers;
- Bags are made of industrially biodegradable material that can be disposed of in organic waste containers;
- The information leaflet is made of paper for food use and can be disposed of in the paper bin.

The demand for fresh aromatic herbs increases year after year as people learn more about their medicinal and nutritional qualities. Demand also comes from restaurants all over the world and even from the pharmaceutical and natural cosmetic industry.

"We want to innovate as much as we can to interpret and anticipate consumer needs in an ever-changing society. Basil remains our leading product, but all our aromatic herbs include a high service component - a guarantee for both retailers and consumers."
