Peru looks to export quinoa and pomegranates to Chinese market

The Peruvian Minister of Foreign Commerce and Tourism, Roger Valencia, stated that over recent years Peru has brought a new export product onto the Chinese market every twelve months. Peru exported whiteleg shrimp to China in 2017, and alpaca products in 2018. Peru aims to export quinoa and pomegranate to China in 2019.

The current position of Peruvian blueberries and avocados in the Chinese market is excellent. Peru is the third-largest supplier of avocados to China, and the second-largest supplier of blueberries. The Peruvian Exporters Association is fighting hard to obtain permission for pomegranates to enter the Chinese market.

China is the largest export destination for Peru, and the largest import origin. Data from the Peruvian Customs Office shows that the import and export value of trade between Peru and China reached 20.28 billion USD in 2017, which is an increase of 20.6% in comparison with the previous year.
