Just in time for the beginning of the banana tender for 2019, the news was published that the Macalea GmbH & Co. KG based in Hamburg was responsible for the bankruptcy of export company Senda Verde. While the report spreads on the net, the management of Macalea was forced to give a statement, says company CEO Herbert Scholdei.
According to Scholdei, in an anonymous communique Macalea GmbH & Co. KG was blamed for the bankruptcy of Senda Verde. ''We do not know the origin but it spreads like a pandemic. This information is incorrect. It's fake news. This term is now somewhat overused, but is it exactly what happened here,'' says Scholdei.
The managing director of the Hamburg-based company is now forced to defend the firm against these allegations, although their origin is unknown and they are false. Scholdei: "Senda Verde is not bankrupt and still exports bananas every week. The official statement of our existing producer/exporter Senda Verde is published on our website.''
'Family Roots'
MACALEA GmbH & Co. KG is a company with 20 years of market experience. It does business with a large number of producers and exporters. ''These partners have been working with us since the founding, as partners or family, even. Especially with regard to organic bananas, we have built up a good name in production and trade in recent years. Because of my family roots I have quite direct contacts with the growers. That makes it even worse, as these are allegations against my family in Ecuador,'' he continues.
