About 200 fruit and vegetable products were submitted for Fresh Summit’s Fresh Ideas Showcase. Clearly, companies continue to focus on creating higher value products for consumers by upgrading the packaging. Top seal as well as peel and resealable packaging continues to gain ground. To differentiate, industry members increasingly focus on developing packaging that is efficient and limits the amount of shelf space. Just in the snacking tomato category, several stackable products entered the market.

Across the board, organic offerings continue to increase with a focus on year-round availability. A selection of newly introduced organic products include organic figs, more organic greenhouse grown vegetables, organic potato products, organic ready-to-drink coconuts, organic basil, and organic guacamole.
About two years ago, some greenhouse vegetable growers started expanding into the greenhouse berry category. This trend continues with more and more greenhouse growers offering one or more berry varieties.
Showcase participants were automatically entered in the Best Overall Product Promo and had the option to be considered for the Best Packaging Promo.
