Produce focused marketing and PR agency expands with new hires

Oster and Associates is pleased to announce the addition of Abraham Garcia and Omar Suñer to its digital marketing team. Garcia and Suñer recently joined the San Diego-based agency as digital marketing specialists who will provide additional support to the ever-growing produce industry.

According to "The Digitally Engaged Food Shopper" report conducted by the Food Marketing Institute and Nielsen, around a quarter of American households currently buy some groceries online, up from 19 percent in 2014 and more than 70 percent will engage with online food shopping within 10 years. The produce industry is shifting from buying at traditional brick-and-mortar stores to shopping online. For example, companies like Farm Fresh to You and Mother Earth Produce now offer consumers fresh local produce delivered directly to their door. According to the company, for produce companies to compete they need to reevaluate their marketing strategies.

Farmer-to-consumer requires a consumer-oriented website. the agency said. They state that this is essential, no matter whether you sell products from a website or not, consumers want to know where their produce is coming from. They will look for information on the history of the growers, how producers handle their merchandise, whether it’s fresh and what it looks like.

On the flip side, if growers want to engage and retain loyal customers, they need to promote cost savings and provide in-depth product information to build trust and convey quality. Many growers find that selling from a website works well – it lengthens the selling season and expands their customer base.
